Letters from Rome No. 1 (manuscript essay), 1856.

Manuscript essay submitted to S.C. Hall, editor of The Art Journal, for publication. In the essay, Fairholt describes his journey to Rome; the chief features along the route, including French and Italian cities and their antiquities; the approach to Rome; and his initial impressions of the city. Included with the manuscript is a letter from Fairhold, dated 1851, regarding a masonic meeting. Only a small part of the essay was published, appearing in the journal in 1857 as the beginning of a series by Fairholt entitled "Rambles in Rome."
